Cutler / Questions

Questions about Cutler.

Straight answers about what Cutler does, what it needs and what it costs.

Can Claude edit video?

Yes, with the right tools. On its own Claude can't see your footage or build a timeline. Cutler gives it eyes (transcripts and shot descriptions), hands (frame-accurate cuts, music, graphics) and a timeline it can look at, then delivers a Final Cut Pro project. More

How do I edit video with Claude Code?

Install Cutler on your Mac and choose Claude Code as the way you edit. Point Claude at a folder from a real job, tell it what the video is for, read the proposed cut, and open the result in Final Cut Pro. More

Does Cutler work with ChatGPT?

Yes, in beta. You sign in with your own ChatGPT account and edit inside Cutler's window. Claude Code is the smoothest path today.

Do I need an API key?

No. Cutler runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. An API key is only an advanced option. Cutler includes no AI and adds nothing on top of what your provider charges.

Which editing software does it export to?

Final Cut Pro today, as a validated FCPXML project with roles, keywords and native multicam. Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve export are in progress and included in every licence when they ship. More

Can it sync multiple cameras and a separate audio recorder?

Yes. Cutler syncs sources by waveform, without timecode, asks you to confirm when it isn't sure, and delivers native multicam to Final Cut Pro. More

Does my footage leave my Mac?

Your video files stay where they are. Transcription always runs on your Mac. When the AI looks at shots, it sees still frames through your own AI account.

Does Cutler generate video?

No. It cuts the footage you shot. Every clip in the timeline points at your original media; nothing is re-encoded or generated.

Will it replace my editor?

No. Claude proposes the first cut and explains every choice. A person gives the brief, makes the judgement calls and finishes the edit. More

Which Macs does it run on?

Macs with Apple Silicon, running macOS 14 or later.

Is it a subscription?

No. It is a one-time purchase: $25 for the first 100 founder licences, with 12 months of updates included. After that the app keeps working; further updates are an optional renewal. More

Who makes Cutler?

Erik Lindgren, an editor with more than twenty years of documentary, corporate and television work, through Mira Contents in Cascais, Portugal.
